An Uplifting Lesson Plan

An Uplifting Lesson Plan

Royal & Langnickel ambassador Cassie Stephens loves sharing her passion for art with her students, and her latest lesson plan is no exception. Inspired by a beautiful piece of street art she saw in her hometown of Nashville, she had her students create their own version of Kelsey Montague’s #whatliftsyou mural.

First she had each student create their own unique feather, dividing them up into sections and drawing different patterns in each section (Royal & Langnickel color pencils are great for this part of the project).

Next, using Big Kids’ Choice brushes, the kids painted bold patterns on brightly colored sheets of paper to be incorporated in the mural.

The final piece combined the feathers and patterns into this stunning wing mural—next Cassie is going to photograph her students in front of the mural. Get the full lesson plan, including a video that introduces the concept of street art and demonstrates how to create the feathers, on Cassie’s blog.
